Light trucks, such as pickups, SUVs, and vans are growing in popularity. Pickup truck sales account for 18% of all vehicle sales within the United States. In fact, these types of vehicles have recently been outselling cars. In 2017, for example, this occurred for the fifth year in a row, with a market share of 64.5%. Over 17 million light vehicles were sold by the U.S. auto market during 2017, which constituted a historical sales record.
