When your tire is flat, you can repair it yourself with a few simple tools. This video shows how tire repair is relatively simple, as long as you have access to the right equipment. Some of the most useful tools you can have on hand are a small air compressor and a spare tire or two.
The first step to repairing a tire is to patch it.
Most tire repair processes require at least two patches. The most common type of patch is a sidewall patch. Next, remove the object from your tire, so it doesn’t puncture again. If using a screwdriver or other tool, ensure it is flat against your tire’s tread. When removing objects inside your tires, ensure that you hold them by their edges or handles.
You also need to patch the hole and put air back in the tire so it will hold pressure again. First, wipe down the inside of your wheel well with a wet rag. Then use a patch kit, air pump, or compressor to inflate your tires with fresh air. Finally, apply rubber cement around the edge of each new patch and press firmly until it fits entirely into place.
